New Jersey Legislative Update: Equal Pay and Paid Sick Leave
New Jersey recently enacted two new pieces of legislation which will affect nearly all employers. On April 24, 2018, Governor Murphy signed into law the Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act (the New Jersey Equal Pay Act or Act) and on May 2, 2018, The New Jersey Paid Sick Leave Act.
Following in the footsteps of many other states, New Jersey is proposing legalizing recreational use and possession of marijuana. Medical marijuana is currently dispensed at various locations throughout the state. However, until legislation is actually passed, an individual still faces significant legal and financial consequences if arrested for marijuana possession without a prescription in New Jersey.
On December 22, President Trump signed into law the most sweeping overhaul of the tax system in more than 30 years - H.R. 1, also known as the “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act". Passage of the tax bill marked the culmination of the President’s first major legislative achievement nearly one year into his first term.
